First make sure that you have uploaded the PDF file into the WordPress media gallery using the steps detailed in the “How To Upload A PDF File Into WordPress” post.

Then you can start to create your new post or new page (whenever suits your purposes better).

PDF Page

When you want to add your PDF file link you then use the WordPress “Add Media” option and select the file from the Media gallery that you want to add into your page or post – in this case the PDF file.

Select the media file (in this case the PDF) that you want to add into the page or the post

Select the media file (in this case the PDF) that you want to add into the page or the post.

On the right hand side of the screen you need to check and set a few options such as: Media Link Details

a) Change the Title if you want.

b)  Make sure that the link is set to the “Media File” option.  This will automatically select the PDF you selected as the destination for the link.

Then click on the “Insert into Page” or “Insert into Post” button.

Finally when you are done editing your page or post “publish” it. You will then find you have created a link to the PDF file which can be accessed by clicking on the link.

Your visitors will then have the option within the PDF file to save and download it if they want.

Now please note that exactly the same process can be applied to MP3 audio files – the only difference will be that when your visitor clicks on the MP3 link a new web page will open that starts to play the MP3. If the MP3 is to be downloaded the user must download it by right-mouse clicking on the link and using the “save target as…” option.

Here is a mock-up page with the PDF file listed as a link.
